Creative Writing classes that children LOVE!

Does your child need help with Creative Writing?
We promise to take your child on imaginative adventures: encountering fantasy creatures, fleeing from volcanoes, exploring deserted islands, chatting to a penguin on the steps of the New York library…anything can happen!
The most important thing to us is that children enjoy writing. We build up their confidence with lots of positivity, encouragement and a growth mindset approach. Mistakes are seen as a part of the learning process, and our small group setting means that children are supporting each other too. This is combined with optional homework tasks, additional resources to support learning and written progress reports three times per year, so you know exactly how your child is progressing in writing.
“My kids can’t wait for the classes and want to keep writing even after the class is finished!”

Creative Writing classes for 6-16 year olds

Early Writers
6-7 year olds
These groups are for emerging young writers and will ensure your child loves writing from the beginning!
We will play games, laugh and have lots of fun exploring imaginative ideas and beginning to structure a story.
For this class your child needs to be able to write at least one sentence on their own.
Aspiring Authors
7-9 year olds
These groups are for children who already have basic writing skills, but need support to pull it all together and to develop their writing style.
This is also a great age for reluctant writers to gain confidence and discover their enjoyment of writing.
For this class your child should be able to write at least a paragraph independently.

Wonderful Writers
9-11 year olds
These groups are for children who can already write a whole story with a beginning, middle and end.
Children will enhance their writing skills, learn how to edit and improve their writing, expand their vocabulary and experiment with figurative language techniques. We will compose fiction of various genres, as well as deepening our knowledge of non-fiction text types and poetry – all in a fun and creative way!
Literacy Legends (KS3 English)
11-13 year olds
In these lessons, students will explore the full breadth of the English curriculum. They will engage with a wide variety of texts, learning to understand the ideas behind them and examining the techniques writers use to bring those ideas to life.
Alongside this, students will develop their own writing skills by experimenting with different styles and producing their own pieces of original writing. We will also strengthen their knowledge of the fundamentals – spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and language techniques – ensuring a solid foundation in all aspects of English.
Above all, lessons will be a space for creativity, self-expression, and enjoyment, where students can share their ideas and express their identities.

IGCSE English Language
13-15 year olds
These sessions are created for students aiming to take the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE in English Language, following Spec B. Students will explore a range of texts from different periods and cultures, exploring the writers’ intentions and craft. Analytical skills, applicable and invaluable for a range of other subjects, will be developed and refined through this IGCSE course, as well as bolstering understanding of appropriate grammar and expression to be used in exams.
Students will advance their creative and non-fiction writing, taking it to the next level by focusing on sophisticated language use and technical accuracy. Each lesson will provide students with plentiful opportunities to develop their writing, with live 1:1 feedback and guidance from their teacher. Regular exam-style assessments, feedback and practice will ensure that students feel confident and prepared for their final exam.

Sofia made a ‘Gruffalo Crumble’ after we used the structure of The Gruffalo to write our own stories, designed our own terrible creatures and wrote revolting recipes.
Home Education
5-16 year olds
Our small groups for Creative Writing are extremely popular with home educating families due to our nurturing, individualised approach.
Classes are always kept small: groups of 3-5 for Primary classes and up to 6 for Secondary. Hannah assesses the needs of each family before they join a class, and a trial lesson is encouraged to ensure the group is a good fit for your child’s current ability level. The last thing we want is to damage their confidence.
Hannah has been working with the home ed community since 2016, so you are in safe hands!

6-16 year olds
Many Worldschoolers attend our Creative Writing classes. We’ve had children joining from Montenegro, Turkey, Morocco, Bali, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Japan!
Although most worldschooling families choose to attend long-term, we also understand your unique need for flexibility – if you’d like to dip in and out of our class blocks, please contact us to discuss your plans. We will be happy to help!
Children from Hong Kong, Malaysia and UAE attend to our small group classes year round. Parents find that our coverage of England’s National Curriculum compliments what their children are studying in international schools, and really appreciate our written progress reports and marking.
